I have my first Audition on Friday, spotty employment through next week, and the cutest damn apartment in Chicago. My optimism holds steady...
The worst part about packing is not the wrapping and folding, not the subtle reminders about your own anemic taste, the tremendous guilt about carting hundreds of pounds of books to a new city (again), it is more the letters that fall out of the nooks and crannies that you tried to stuff them in before you moved last time that you simply must read. The memories that come with pictures of your old life, the terrible poetry you wrote about them, and the fear about fucking this one up too all sort of combine at times to make you stop, take of your shoes and stand in the middle of room wondering.
One also must wonder where we are as a nation when we have aisles of different kinds of toilet paper. There are people who can walk down and Know which brand is right for them, but there are also those of us who feel that the wrong choice will affect every decision they make further on in their lives. I would have made such a better fascist.
